Houthi Riyadh Airport Strike Kills 12
“The Houthi attack on Riyadh’s international airport is an appalling act of terror. There can be no justification for indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure,” Kallas wrote on X.
She also extended “deepest” condolences to the families of the victims.
Kallas said the escalating tensions in the region would be on the agenda in talks set for Monday. “Enhanced coordination between the EU’s Red Sea naval operation Aspides and the Saudi-led Multinational Maritime Defence Coalition is vital,” she added.
The Saudi civil aviation authority said the dead included four Saudis, two Bangladeshis, and one person each from the US, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. The wounded are in hospitals, and some are in critical condition.
The authority said earlier that it halted airport operations temporarily while officials assessed the damage and checked the safety of the facilities. The shutdown disrupted flights, and travelers were urged to confirm their status with airlines before heading to the airport. Kuwait Airways scrapped its Saturday flights to and from Riyadh, citing the closure.
The strike followed several days of Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports and facilities.
